SHAX has received a Volunteer Friendly Award.
The quality standard is designed to support, recognise and reward groups who are good at involving volunteers.
The award is based on the national standard Investing in Volunteers (IiV) but is designed for small organisations, which may not be ready to undertake IiV yet, or which may be looking for a stepping stone towards IiV.

SHAX has been working towards the award since last year and it was presented by Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway Engagement Officer Selina McMorran.
Social Enterprise Manager Joyce Harkness said: “We’re tremendously pleased to be able to formally acknowledge the support we give to our terrific volunteers. The award process was very helpful in assisting SHAX to review our volunteer support policies and tools and will help SHAX improve our volunteer programme in the future.”
The independent charity is based at The Crichton, Dumfries and provides practical help to people facing crisis through poverty and/or homelessness, as well as volunteering and work placement opportunities.
