Updates of Coronavirus impact on third sector services

Dumfries and Galloway Advocacy Service

Due to Covid-19 our office is closed but our service is still open – we are taking calls between 9.30am and 12.30pm and 1pm to 3.30pm Monday to Friday.

Calls are being forwarded from our usual number (01387 247237) to Duty Advocates. There may be times when your call will be picked up by our answering machine if it is outwith opening hours or if we are already on other calls. If so, please leave your name and contact number and any message and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

If you wish to make a referral (or have an enquiry) we would ask, if possible, for you to do this via our email info@dgadvocacy.co.uk or our website www.dgadvocacy.co.uk which has a contact form and referral form.

We are supporting our clients via phone, text, email and video call.  In some circumstances we will support people face to face in relation to legal legislation such as gaining views and giving support for Mental Health Tribunals for clients within Midpark Hospital, but only where it is appropriate, and by following Public Health and Government Guidance as well as the local Health & Social Care Guidance.

We will continue to ensure that our clients views and wishes are heard and that our clients understand their options and choices. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. #advocacyCovid19

We would ask that you bear with us during this time as it may take slightly longer to assist with your request.

Dumfries and Galloway Carers Centre

Unfortunately due to COVID-19, we have had to stop one to one appointments and group work but the Carers Centre service is open and providing a service

We know that many Carers and Young Carers may be struggling with having to remain at home while caring for someone and that many of the services that support the person you care for may have been reduced or stopped just now.

If you need any advice, questions answered, or simply need someone to talk to please get in touch.

At present a member of staff will be in the Carers Centre from 10am-3pm to answer calls directly. The rest of our staff team are working from home and can provide telephone support or a video call through a system called Attend Anywhere.

Staff will be getting in contact with many Carers and Young Carers registered with the service but we are encouraging Carers not to wait if they need to talk.

How to get in touch

We can be contacted in various ways:

Call us on: 01387 248600. A message can be left if not between 10am-3pm. Email us at: info@dgalcarers.org. Visit our website at: www.dgalcarers.co.uk

If you use Facebook please like our page and encourage any Carers you know to do the same.

We will be posting regular updates and information which we hope will provide you with access to local services that could help with things like food delivery, things to do and access online as well as service updates.

Better Lives Partnership

In light of the Coronavirus guidance, the Better Lives Partnership board has taken the decision to close The Bridge to Employment Programme in Castle Douglas from 4pm on Thursday.

The Bridge to Employment programme at Wigtownshire closed for young people on Tuesday.

In the first instance the closure will be until Friday April 17, during which time they will continue to monitor the situation with a view to re-open as soon as it is safe and responsible to do so.
This is not a decision that was taken lightly.

“The safety of our staff team and all our young people is very important to us.  As all of our team are able to work from home, we should be able to be in touch with you by email even though our office has to close.”
