‘Outstanding’ accolade for railway station volunteers

A volunteer gardening group that looks after railway stations across Dumfries and Galloway has been given an outstanding certificate accolade at the It’s Your Neighbourhood awards.

The dedicated volunteers of the South West Railway Adopter Gardening Group provide a platform for plants and people to flourish at over 20 railway stations across South West Scotland.

The group is part of ScotRail’s Adopt a Station scheme, bringing life to dead spaces by providing colour, cheer and character to railway stations and all members of the community who use them.

The group also provides a safe home, food source and habitats for wilder commuters – mainly birds, bees and butterflies.

It’s Your Neighbourhood is Keep Scotland Beautiful’s community environmental improvement initiative in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society under the Britain in Bloom campaign.
