The Pharmacy Practices Committee is a statutory committee to be established in accordance with regulation 7 of the Health Boards (Membership and Procedure)(Scotland) Regulations 2001 (a) and the provisions of Schedule 4 of the NHS (Pharmaceutical Services) (Scotland) (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2014(as amended).
The Pharmacy Practices Committee is established to consider whether a new or relocated pharmacy should be admitted to the Health Board’s Pharmaceutical List.
The Pharmacy Practices Committee consists of seven members:
Chair & Vice Chair to be appointed by the Chairman of the Health Board
Three Pharmacists – one shall be a pharmacist whose name is not included in any Pharmaceutical List and two whose names are included in a Pharmaceutical List.
Three Lay Members who are appointed by the Board who have not previously been a doctor, dentist, ophthalmic optician or a pharmacist, or an employee of a person who is a doctor, dentist, ophthalmic optician or pharmacist.
Where a pharmacy application is received for a new pharmacy wishing to open in an area where there is a dispensing General Medical Practice the Committee will require an additional member who will be nominated by the Area Medical Committee
The Health Board requires to appoint three Lay Members and three Deputies to serve on the Health Board’s Pharmacy Practices Committee.
Please note to become a Lay Member a stipulation of the National Health Service Pharmaceutical Services (Scotland) Amendment Regulations make reference that you have not previously been a doctor, dentist, optician or a pharmacist or have been an employee of a person who is a doctor, dentist, optician or pharmacist.
