Exhibition to look at days gone by in town

A vast private collection of photos of Civic week celebrations in Castle Douglas will be on show as part of a pop up exhibition on Saturday in Low’s newsagents in Castle Douglas.

The photographs and memorabilia are from May Crawford’s collection.

They capture many magic moments from Civic Week in the past including Douglas lasses and lads, the huge parades of floats on King Street and the much remembered visit of glamorous Coronation Street star, Elsie Tanner.

They will go on show from from 10am to 4pm alongside James Parker’s photographs of the area as well as memorabilia provided by Drew and John Low and many others.

Entry is free and there will be  mince pies and wine. Everyone is invited to come along and enjoy a chat and a walk down memory lane as the King Street Christmas lights are switched on.
