Two events are taking place in Dumfries and Stranraer focused on unlocking opportunities for people with a learning disability.
The ‘Keys to Life’ events in Dumfries on July 29 and Stranraer on August 1 will deliver a very local focus on developments emerging from a national strategy, and help share understanding and knowledge about local services.
Anyone keen to attend either event is invited to register their interest now.
In addition, the events will allow a chance to discuss the opportunities that exist to shape a local strategy for learning disability.
Glen Graham is Strategic Planning and Commissioning Manager for Learning Disability and Mental Health, and he said: “Significant change is taking place, helping to unlock opportunities for people with a learning disability.
“In order to introduce and better explain these changes, and allow us to shape our own local strategy, we’ve organised two events in Stranraer and Dumfries with a packed schedule of activity.”
Both events will feature an address by Andy Miller – Policy and Implementation Manager for the Scottish Commission for Learning Disability.
There will also be strong representation and participation from local user groups, who will take part in workshops on the themes of: A Healthy Life; Choice and Control; Independence; Active Citizenship
The Dumfries event is first, taking place at Dumfries Baptist Church from 10 am on Monday July 29.
The Stranraer event follows at North West Castle Hotel from 10 am on Thursday August 1.
Glen said: “These developments are set to have implications for anyone who either has a learning disability, or is involved in supporting someone with a learning disability – whether professionally or personally.
“We have invited a wide range of people to come along to find out more about the new national strategy and to play a very important role in shaping our local approach to unlocking opportunities for people with a learning disability.”
Anyone keen to attend either event is invited to register their interest by telephoning 01387 272734 or emailing email@example.com
