Dumfries Market Festival moves online

The Guild (Dumfries) CIC were delighted when they received the news from Dumfries and Galloway Council in November that the trial of Dumfries Market Festival would be extended for another year.

But with further Coronavirus restrictions affecting their plans, The Guild have had to adapt and diversify to help their community of makers, artists and producers to continue reaching their customers, while safeguarding the health and wellbeing of the public.

Director Leah Halliday explains, “We have been thoroughly looking forward to March 2021 and returning to Dumfries Town Centre with our amazing stall holders, performers and workshops.

“However, as one of the main purposes of the Market Festival is to bring our community together and celebrate what our wonderful town has to offer, we feel March is still a little early to do this. However, we are very pleased to announce that we are moving the Dumfries Market Festival online.”

From the safety of your own home on Saturday March 13 from 10am – 4pm, you can still experience the festival in a day, but just in a slightly different way.

Applications are now open, so if you are a local maker, food and drink producer, artist or indie business owner and would like to be involved then please read the terms and conditions and fill in the application form.

Applicants are being asked to set up a market stall from home and bring the shopping experience to life with virtual tours and demos. Local musicians, songwriters, dance groups and story tellers and more are also being sought, to perform virtually throughout the day to add to the festive atmosphere.

Director Natalie Farrell said: “We very much hope the public support this decision and join us online on Saturday March 13. An online event allows us to continue to support our creative community in what continues to be very difficult times.”

The Guild will continue to monitor the Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance carefully and look forward to hopefully returning to real life markets from Saturday April 10.

The deadline to take part in the online Market Festival in March is midnight on Sunday. Application criteria, terms and conditions and application forms can be found at dumfries-market-festival-online-march
