Carsphairn Community Woodland has been awarded £209,000 from the Scottish Land Fund.
The money will allow Carsphairn Community Woodland to buy 120 acres of Muirdrochwood Forest in order to deliver long term benefits to the community including employment, recreation, education and training.
A total of £1,586,389 was revealed for 11 community ownership projects with the Carsphairn project the only one in Dumfries and Galloway.
The directors of the Community Woodland were delighted this week to announce the award – a substantial grant towards the community asset transfer.
This, along with a discount awarded by Forestry and Land Scotland and local funding from CREFL, will allow the Community to take ownership of 120 acres of Muirdrochwood Forest for the benefit of local residents and visitors.
The process of transferring ownership could take up to six months and further updates will be given in the future.
Anyone residing in Carsphairn Community can become a member and get involved in the project, while those beyond this area can also get involved as a supporter / volunteer and enjoy the benefits of the woodland. Email enquiries can be made to: email@example.com.
