British Sign Language addition for NHS Dumfries and Galloway services

NHS Dumfries and Galloway are improving access to British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation for those using their services.

There are now a number of video interpretation options for those occasions where face to face interpretation is not required or available:

• All public authorities and voluntary organisations in Scotland can be contacted through the Government funded ContactSCOTLAND-BSL. BSL users can access ContactSCOTLAND-BSL by downloading the app or via a computer. More information can be found at https://contactscotland-bsl.org/

• BSL video interpreting can be accessed by downloading the InterpreterNow app. The app now has a NHS Dumfries and Galloway ‘button’ which can be used for communicating with any of the health services, including GPs and Dentists. More information can be found at https://interpreternow.co.uk/

• BSL video interpreting is now also available in hospitals. In some areas, they have introduced dedicated iPads for BSL video interpreting and in other areas this will be delivered through existing computers.

If you have an interpretation or translation requirement, please speak to a member of staff in the service you are attending. You can also contact Patient Services using one of the methods above, by phone on 01387 272733 or by email at Dumf-uhb.PatientServices@nhs.net.
