Dumfries & Galloway Council is currently developing its thinking around Participation Requests (PR). As part of the wider community empowerment agenda, this should allow community groups a greater say into how services are designed and delivered.
The Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act says:
Public bodies should work with communities to make sure their services do what people need. If a community group has an idea to make services better, they can make a participation request to the public body that runs the service. The public body will have to listen to the community group’s idea and talk to them about how it might work. Afterwards the public body must write a report to say what happened, if the service worked better and how the community group helped.
In a workshop setting with Third Sector Dumfries & Galloway, we will consider:
What approach would you like to see us take to Participation Requests?
What discussions with community groups would be helpful?
What support and guidance could be provided to assist participation from community groups?
What additional things would you like us to do?
The workshop will provide enough information to bring all up to speed with Participation requests and will allow interactive time for discussion.
Two events will take place:
Dumfries 25 August (2pm – 4pm)
Stranraer 29 August (11am – 1pm)
